Dearly esteemed reader,
I hope this letter finds you in good spirits.
I, for one, am delighted to start this series of letters from my heart to yours. I have been a lover of letters all my life and have an appreciation for vocabulary, so, this complimentary endeavour, I hope, will add a small dash of amusement, if anything, to your reading experience. I do not think that it will be a scheduled affair but rather something that I’ll engage in, if and when it so pleases me. You might find that my ”voice” so to speak, is different in these letters than they are in my usual writing style, but it so happens that this is how I speak in my mind. Oftentimes it comes out when I’m not filtering myself and my daughters tell me that I’m rather ”over the top”. In my regular blog articles I try to simplify my speech as to be more widely accepted. Anyhow, it is a compromise that one must make in order to fit in to this ever so casual world. I was born in Lisbon and spent my formative years there, and although I started picking up on the English language quite early on, it was only later in my twenties that I started reading the English classics, that must be the reason my mind thinks in this (I’m told) old and flowery fashion.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way I shall proceed to tell you that I have the utmost regard for persons that try their very best to live in an authentic and intentional manner. It takes courage! I so wish to be one of those courageous souls in a society that reveres homogeneity. So, I have come to the decision that from here on now I will embrace my whimsical self and adopt an attitude of eccentricity that will, hopefully, keep me from deviating from my true self, and trying to mould into what others want me to be like, thus I shall continue indulging in this alter ego of mine. A social shield of sorts if you will! After all, what is life, but an exclusive opportunity to experience this fantabulous world? And I, my dear reader, suggest, you do the same, otherwise, what in the world are you doing on this site anyway? For this is exactly why I created this space. It is a matter of integrity after all.
I wish to keep your company in future musings, so do return and share your ponderings with us as they are most revered in this corner of the World Wide Web.
Yours gratefully,
R.C. De Sousa,
Author.
